Anthurium is native to the tropical and subtropical forests of Central and South America, where it blooms almost continuously.

Anthurium is one of the few plants that can bloom profusely in winter. But this can only be achieved with proper care. The watering regime, room temperature, frequency of moistening and fertilizing are important.

The channel “Home and garden plot” on YouTube writes about how to make anthurium bloom.

Why does anthurium not bloom?

“The homeland of anthurium is the tropical and subtropical forests of Central and South America, where it blooms almost continuously. Without creating conditions similar to natural ones at home, it is difficult to achieve flowering from an exotic bush,” says the grower.

The most common care errors include:

  • insufficient lighting, short daylight hours, direct sunlight in the hot season
  • air that is too cold or too warm and dry
  • dense soil, inadequate drainage, insufficient ventilation of the root system
  • inappropriate fertilizer, lack of fertilizer
  • the pot is too spacious or too cramped
  • overload of faded buds

“Even one of these mistakes is enough for “male happiness” (that’s what anthurium is called) to look not too happy. To avoid this, you need to create a comfortable environment for anthurium,” adds the expert.

How to get anthurium to bloom

It is important that the pot for the plant is the right size. If it is too small, the flower will not be able to develop; if it is too large, it will grow the root system, and not the ground part.

“Anthurium loves loose and slightly acidic soil. You can mix soil for orchids, add perlite and humus, or buy ready-made soil,” says the grower.

She adds that the plant’s roots should be free to fit into the pot. Drainage is also mandatory.

“When the root system fills the entire pot, flowering stops. Therefore, this must be taken into account. The plant also needs light, but without direct sunlight. Daylight hours should be 12 hours. For this, you can buy a phytolamp,” says the expert.

The correct room temperature must be maintained. In summer it should not be higher than 28 degrees Celsius, and in winter it should not be lower than 15 degrees. Otherwise, the plant will stop blooming.

“It is very important to create artificial humidity for the anthurium. To do this, you can put moss on the ground in a pot – it will retain moisture. In the summer, you can add expanded clay and water it,” advises the gardener.

It is important to water the anthurium on time. If the soil is dry, then water it, and after half an hour, take back the water that has run into the stand. If the plant gets too much moisture, yellow spots will appear on the leaves. Excessive watering may even cause root rot.

“It is advisable to spray daily. It must be done so that water does not get on the flower. Also, insects should not be allowed to pollinate the flower, otherwise the plant will not produce new buds,” says the woman.

For abundant flowering, the plant needs to be given potassium and phosphorus fertilizers, but nitrogen should be avoided.

“You can sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon and water. Aloe juice and banana skins are also useful. If you use these tips, your anthurium will definitely bloom,” advises the flower girl.
