What is the essence of the holiday
Philip was one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ. The future apostle was born in the city of Bethsaida (now the territory of Israel), where the other two apostles, Andrew and Peter, were from. After the Ascension of the Lord, Philip preached the Word of God in Galilee, Greece and some other countries, accompanying his preaching with miracles. For example, he resurrected a baby who was carried in the arms of an inconsolable mother.
Preaching Christ in Hierapolis in Syria, the apostle faced strong anger from the people and, at the demand of the crowd, raised the dead, who was carried on a stretcher in a funeral procession moving past.
Also on this day, weddings ended. On this day the brownie was honored. They brought him snacks so that he could better protect livestock during the winter season.
All time was supposed to be devoted to work and pious pursuits. However, in the evening of Philip’s day one could do fortune telling.
