How to choose bed linen: material options

- Cotton. This is the most popular material for bedding sets. Cotton does not fade during washing, does not tear, and absorbs moisture well. However, you need to be careful that such a bed does not shrink, since at high washing temperatures it can shrink in size. This bed is of high quality, so it’s not cheap, and besides, it wrinkles and will need to be ironed.
- Polyester. The advantages of such linen are that it is inexpensive, can be of any color, does not wrinkle or shrink. In addition, such a bed remains bright for a long time and absorbs moisture and odors well. But it should be borne in mind that synthetic fabric does not breathe, so it will be difficult to sleep on in the heat.
- Silk. This is luxury lingerie, so it is expensive, but it looks chic and rich. Silk bedding is best for people with allergic reactions because silk collects less bacteria. However, it is uncomfortable to sleep on such a bed because it slides. Silk should also not be soaked, bleached, wrung out or ironed at high temperatures.
- Viscose. This bed is made of cellulose, making it pleasant to the touch. This fabric breathes well, but does not absorb moisture very well, so it is not suitable for summer. Viscose cannot be washed in hot water at high speeds, and it should not be bleached.
- Linen. This fabric is very pleasant to the body, at the same time environmentally friendly and of high quality, because it can withstand repeated washing. This bed has high thermoregulation: in hot weather it is not hot, but in cold weather it is warm. In addition, tangles do not form on linen. Such a bed costs more than a cotton bed. In addition, she is very wrinkled.
Which bed is better in quality: thread weaving options
Often, bed linen manufacturers indicate not the material from which the set is made, but the weave of the thread. There are several weaving options.
- Satin. This material is made from two types of threads, where the back is rough and the face is smooth. Satin is more pleasant to the touch than calico and more pleasant to the body. A satin bed will be good for winter, but it will be hot on it in summer. This linen must be washed correctly, otherwise tangles and snags will form on it. This weaving is found in sets made of cotton, viscose and polyester.
- Without. This fabric will have a criss-cross weave and if you touch it, it will be rough. Calico is easy to care for, inexpensive, retains heat well and allows air to pass through. Most often, such bed linen is made of cotton.
- Poplin. This fabric has the same weave as calico, but it has threads of different thicknesses. Therefore, the bed linen is thinner, shiny and more pleasant to the body. Poplin is much thicker than satin, but cheaper, so it is the best option in this price segment.
- Knitwear. Sheets with elastic are made from this material, but there are also sets. This material is of very high quality, hypoallergenic, and stretches well. If cotton knitwear is more expensive, it means it is of higher quality. The cheaper such underwear is, the faster it will become covered with puffs and tangles.
