Very Italian: a recipe for delicious meatballs in sauce

Photo: from open sources

Meatballs with sauce is a classic Italian dish that every housewife knows how to cook.

Cooking meatballs in tomato sauce is not at all difficult, and the secret lies in the minced meat: a few real, high-quality ingredients and we will get a truly tasty and rich result. So we use good mince (beef or even mixed if you like), put it in a bowl and gradually add the rest of the ingredients: we start with the egg, grated cheese, chopped parsley and salt to taste.

This is a complete main course that can be eaten alone or, if you prefer, accompanied by a light side dish, such as a simple green salad. The recipe was shared on the Fatto in casa da Benedetta website.

If we want a creamier, more enveloping sauce, we dredge the meatballs in flour before browning them in the pan.

Meatballs with sauce

Ingredients:

  • 500 g minced meat;
  • one egg;
  • 30 g grated cheese;
  • parsley;
  • milk – 10 ml;
  • bread crumbs – 120 g;
  • fine salt.

For the sauce:

  • small onion;
  • one carrot;
  • tomato puree – 400 g;
  • olive oil;
  • fine salt;
  • ½ glass of white wine.

Preparation:

  1. Place the minced meat in a bowl, add salt, then add the egg, grated cheese, some chopped parsley and mix well.
  2. We also add milk.
  3. Mix together a little and add breadcrumbs, kneading with your hands until a homogeneous and not too soft mass is obtained.
  4. You can use stale bread instead of breadcrumbs: take two slices and soak them in the milk specified in the recipe.
  5. Let’s form meatballs in our hands. Just remember to wet your palms with water. The ideal size is about the size of a walnut.
  6. In a frying pan, fry the chopped onions and carrots in a little oil.
  7. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides, turning occasionally.
  8. At this stage, add the wine and let it evaporate.
  9. Pour in tomato puree and season with salt.
  10. Finally, cover and let cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  11. Our meatballs with sauce are ready.
