How to store vegetables and fruits so they don’t spoil

You should not wash fruits and vegetables before putting them in the refrigerator. You should also avoid proximity to other products, this is especially true for apples, as they emit ethylene, a gas that negatively affects other products.

  • Bananas, avocados and pineapples. These fruits are best stored at room temperature, giving them a separate place in the kitchen.
  • Greens – celery, parsley, dill, cilantro and lettuce. They are recommended to be packaged in a damp cloth, wrapped in plastic or foil and placed in a separate compartment in the refrigerator.
  • Cucumbers keep well in a cool place for a week. If they start to wilt, they need to cut off the tails and place them in cold water.
  • Other vegetables and fruits. These include zucchini, eggplant, beans, peppers, mushrooms, pears, radishes, beets, carrots and cabbage. They are stored well in the refrigerator if the temperature does not exceed 13 degrees and does not fall below eight.
  • Berries. They are best consumed within 24 hours. Or you need to lay them out in a thin layer in a spacious container. Berries should not be washed to ensure they last longer.
  • Potatoes, onions and garlic store well without refrigeration; they should be stored in a dark, cool, dry place. Onions and garlic should be stored separately.
  • Tomatoes and citrus fruits are best kept in a box at room temperature. Because low temperatures can negatively affect their quality.
