Salt is a popular seasoning that is used in every kitchen. It is distinguished by such properties as friability, dryness and absence of lumps. But the product cannot always be preserved exactly like this. What to do if the salt is damp?

Due to its hygroscopicity (ability to absorb water), salt often turns into hard lumps. However, you can easily prevent the contents of the salt shaker or packaging from turning into a hardened mass.

How to remove moisture from salt in a salt shaker

If you put a few grains of rice (2-3 is enough) in a salt shaker or other container in which you store salt, the sodium chloride will remain dry even at high humidity.

The fact is that rice also absorbs moisture. But it copes with this task much faster than salt. That is why the seasoning in the container containing several grains of rice always remains crumbly.

How to dry salt in the microwave

If the salt is already damp in the package, turning into one large lump, you can remove the moisture from it if you use a simple tip.

Pour the seasoning into a container, and then microwave for 1 minute at maximum power. Very soon the salt will become dry.

If this method doesn’t work for you, there is another simple trick. Place a piece of ordinary black bread in a package with salt and close tightly, leave for 3-4 hours. The bread will absorb all the moisture and the salt will become crumbly again.

Also, the salt will never become soggy if you mix a small amount of potato flour into the seasoning.
