Regular consumption of tea with such components will help improve metabolism and balance the concentration of microelements in the body.

During the cold season, you need to enrich your body with essential minerals and vitamins. Natural herbal teas will help strengthen your health and improve your well-being, especially after illness. Their additional advantage is that you can combine the ingredients yourself, depending on your taste preferences and body needs.

Allergist Olga Tarnavskaya spoke exclusively to RBC-Ukraine about which teas are best to drink to improve health.

What teas best strengthen the immune system?

“When there is a high incidence of viral diseases, when you have to use chemical medications, which as a result negatively affect other systems and organs, it is advisable to strengthen your immunity. This should be done in different ways, including using various herbal teas,” says the doctor.

To do this, she advises choosing tea that contains the following ingredients.

Eucalyptus is a plant known all over the world for its healing properties due to the fact that its chemical composition contains many essential oils.

“By properly brewing eucalyptus leaves, you can lower the temperature without pharmaceutical drugs, effectively fight pathogenic bacteria, remove phlegm from the bronchi and lungs. The positive effect of eucalyptus also extends to the tissues of the gastrointestinal tract,” says Tarnavskaya.

St. John’s wort is a plant rich in nicotinic acid, essential oils, vitamins A, B, C, PP. Tea with this herb has a mild but quite effective antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect, helps improve blood circulation, bile secretion, and digestive processes.

Sage is another effective natural antibiotic.

“In addition to the positive effect on diseases of the respiratory tract and oral cavity, tea with sage helps strengthen memory and improves brain function. It is especially recommended to drink hot tea with sage during the treatment of bronchitis,” explains the doctor.

Linden – the flowers of this tree contain vitamin A, C, as well as saponins and tannins. It is recommended to drink tea with linden to speed up recovery from inflammatory diseases, colds, neuralgia, and childhood infections.

Hibiscus, a drink containing Sudanese rose flowers, helps not only normalize blood pressure, but also remove toxins, strengthen blood vessels, improve the functioning of the liver and gastrointestinal tract.

Calendula – the flowers of the plant used to make teas contain natural phytoncides. They are effective as an anti-inflammatory agent. Also in the chemical composition of this plant there are essential oils and valuable organic acids.

Thyme is considered one of the healthiest plants.

“Drinking tea with this herb helps strengthen the immune system and quickly cope with any diseases – colds, bacterial, viral. The antiseptic properties are due to the presence of vitamins C, B, a rich set of microelements, flavonoids, tannins,” says the allergist.

What to add to tea to boost immunity

According to the doctor, to strengthen the immune system, the following herbs, fruits, and berries are perfect:

  • rosehip and sea buckthorn
  • plantain
  • cowberry
  • cherry, currant and blackberry
  • mint

“Regular consumption of tea with such components will help improve metabolism and balance the concentration of microelements in the body. Even in unfavorable weather conditions or negative environmental factors, the body will be more resistant to various diseases as a result. I would especially like to note ginger tea for increasing immunity and colds,” – says Tarnavskaya.
