If you have guests on the doorstep or urgently need to make an easy-to-prepare treat, then this recipe can help you out.

Puff pastry envelopes with apples and cheese are very tasty, tender and aromatic. Instead of apples, you can use another filling. Francesca Zani shared the recipe, writes Delish.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples, cored, sliced;
  • zest from 1 lemon;
  • 6 tablespoons of liquid honey;
  • 1 package (500 g) puff pastry, defrosted;
  • 1 large egg;
  • 230g sharp cheddar, finely grated;
  • 1.5 teaspoons sea salt;
  • 1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans;
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves.

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C and line 2 baking sheets with parchment. In a medium bowl, combine apples, lemon zest, and 4 tablespoons honey.
  2. Cut each sheet of dough into 4 squares (11 x 11 cm), making eight in total. In a small bowl, beat the egg with a little water. Brush the outer edges of the dough with the egg wash. Turn the dough squares so that the corner is facing you. Place 1 tablespoon of grated cheese in the middle of the square.
  3. Top with 10-11 apple slices. Next, place 1 heaping tablespoon of shredded cheese on each side of the apple slices. Fold the left side over and press lightly to seal, then fold the right side in as well. Brush the top and sides of the dough with the egg wash and sprinkle with sea salt. Place 4 envelopes on each prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake puff pastries until puff pastry is puffed and golden brown around edges, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes.
  5. Place the finished envelopes on a platter. Drizzle with remaining 2 tablespoons honey. Top with pecans and thyme.
