This dish is in no way inferior to the original, but looks much more impressive.

Salad “Herring under a fur coat”, or in common people simply “fur coat”, is the same obligatory attribute of the New Year holidays as “Olivier”, a Christmas tree and gifts. If you want to please your guests with their favorite dish, but at the same time add something new to it, we recommend preparing this salad in the form of Christmas tree decorations. Culinary blogger Anna told how to do this, and at the same time demonstrated the whole process on her Instagram page.

Salad “shuba” in the form of Christmas balls

Ingredients for 6 pcs:

  • large beets – 2 pcs;
  • medium-sized potatoes – 3-4 pcs;
  • carrots – 2 pcs;
  • eggs – 2 pcs;
  • small onion – 1 piece;
  • herring fillet – 200 g;
  • mayonnaise – 2 tbsp. l;
  • salt.

Cooking method:

  1. Wash all the vegetables for the salad, boil in salted water or bake in foil in an oven preheated to 200 degrees for 40 minutes. Boil the eggs hard. Cool everything.
  2. Peel the vegetables and grate them on a fine grater. Finely chop the onion and herring.
  3. Squeeze the beets so that all the excess juice is gone and mix them with half the grated potatoes and add salt.
  4. Mix grated carrots, potatoes, eggs, onions, mayonnaise, salt and herring in one bowl.
  5. Place a spoonful of beets on cling film, spread it into a thin ball, place a mixture of vegetables and herring in the center and carefully lift the film so that the beets completely cover the filling. Form balls in this way and place them in the refrigerator for an hour.
  6. After the balls have cooled and hold their shape, remove the film from them, decorate them and you can serve the dish on the table.
