Very often, after a long flight, you want to take a hot shower and stand under water for as long as possible. But you shouldn’t do this. Why a hot shower is dangerous – read the material below.

Why you shouldn’t take a long hot shower after a flight

After a long journey and the potential of encountering worrisome germs at the airport, including harmful bacteria such as staph and E. coli, many people are eager to shower once they arrive at their destination. However, while hot, steamy showers can kill some germs, they also rob your skin of much-needed protection.

The fact is that scalding showers can trigger skin conditions such as eczema and acne because hot water strips the natural oils and beneficial bacteria from your skin.

“Soap and hot water jets really remove and disrupt the skin microbiome, which plays a role in protecting the skin and is also extremely important for the overall health of the body,” said dermatologist Julie Russak.

Instead of hot showers, health experts recommend that people take cold showers in water that is below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to Healthline, cold showers can help increase endorphins, boost metabolism, strengthen the immune system, promote healthy weight loss, improve circulation, reduce inflammation and swelling, combat symptoms of depression, and reduce pain.
