If you do not suspect the development of diabetes or prediabetes, you should still worry about your health.

The main danger of diabetes is that its presence significantly increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. However, prediabetes has identical effects on the human body.

RBC-Ukraine, with a link to a video on Yevgeny Komarovsky’s YouTube channel, tells how to suspect a pre-diabetic condition and confirm or refute this diagnosis.

How to suspect prediabetes

You should suspect you have prediabetes if you have certain risk factors:

  • age from 40 years
  • men get sick more often
  • overweight
  • high blood pressure
  • sedentary lifestyle

For people who fall under risk factors, Komarovsky names three devices for self-monitoring.

  1. The first one is scales. To prevent health problems, you should control your weight.
  2. The second is a tonometer. If your blood pressure is always high, monitor it regularly.
  3. The third is a glucometer. This is a simple device that will help you determine your glucose level at home.

Prevention and treatment

If you do not suspect the development of diabetes or prediabetes, you should still worry about your health. Despite the fact that today medicine has learned to contain and prevent the development of the disease, there are other methods.

First of all, this is a fundamental correction of lifestyle: combating excess weight, optimizing nutrition, adequate physical activity. Research shows that lifestyle interventions are more effective than medications, especially in prediabetes.

Thus, at this stage you can do without drug treatment, you just need to lead a healthy lifestyle.
