The feeling of cozy feet triggers nerves in the brain called heat-sensing neurons, which induce deep, sound sleep.

A handful of nuts prevents colds

The last thing you need right now is a runny nose or sore throat. To avoid getting sick, you just need to add a handful of nuts to your daily diet. It turns out that eating a handful of nuts of any type every day cuts the risk of seasonal colds in half, and reduces the occurrence of complications from viral infections by as much as 68 percent, according to a study published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition. Nuts are rich in magnesium, a powerful mineral that strengthens the airways, energizes virus-killing T cells, and suppresses the immune system’s release of pain-causing proteins known as inflammatory cytokines.

Gratitude relieves stress

Simply pausing before each meal to think about someone or something you’re grateful for can reduce nervousness, irritability, and bad mood by as much as 80 percent. That’s according to researchers at the University of California, Davis, who say even short breaks of gratitude or prayer relax tense muscles, lower blood pressure and slow the release of stress hormones.

Rubbing lavender relieves pain

If standing for long periods of time is causing muscle spasms and pain, massaging the sensitive areas with a few drops of lavender essential oil mixed with body lotion can provide relief in just one minute. And if you make it a daily habit, you’ll relieve pain as effectively as painkillers, a study out of Brazil shows. Lavender linalool acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever.
